A Biography and Information:
Rev. William T. Wing, His Wife, Karen and Their Family
Rev. William T. Wing III, "Bill” and his wife, Karen, are excited about a call to the Salem Church and being in the Washington College and Limestone areas. The Wing’s believe that God will bless our ministry together. The Committee on Ministry of Holston Presbytery has met with Rev. Wing and has received him as a minister member and affirmed the possibility of this pastoral call.
Rev. Wing is a graduate of Covenant College (major in counseling psychology), near Chattanooga, Tennessee and Reformed Theological Seminary ( M.Div.) in Jackson, Mississippi. He was ordained as minister of word and sacrament by Holston Presbytery in 1979. Bill served from 1998 to 2006 as pastor of the Stone Memorial Presbyterian Church and during 2007 as Supply Pastor in Abingdon Presbytery. He has taken an active role with presbytery responsibilities, serving on and taking leadership positions with several committees. His pastoral ministry has been with churches in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. Over the course of his ministry Bill has supported the Global Mission program of our Presbyterian church on several levels.
Bill was born in Chicago, Illinois (where his grandparents lived) in the time between his parents and older sister moving from the mission field in Mexico and his father's pastoral call to a congregation in Tallahassee, Florida. His youth was split between Tallahassee, Florida; Atlanta, Georgia; Columbia, South Carolina; and Savannah, Georgia.
Karen was born in Asheville, North Carolina and was raised in Weaverville, North Carolina. She lived in Weaverville until marrying Bill and moving with him to Jackson, Mississippi. She has taught in Mississippi, North Carolina and Virginia. Rev. Wing and Karen have three adult sons. Karen is a graduate of UNC-Asheville with master’s degrees from Western Carolina University (Early Childhood Education) and Emory and Henry College (Reading Specialist). She has taken an active role in the church with a special interest in young children, and has enjoyed participating with Bible Study, worship and every aspect of church fellowship. Karen has been active in leadership with a local Weight-Watchers group and places a real emphasis upon healthy living.
Bill’s most recent call was for eight years as pastor of Stone Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marion Va. This was a church membership of just over 100 members, but they were contained in four chapels which make up the church as a whole. Basically, Rev. Wing has been holding four services (and giving four sermons) most every Sunday morning for the last eight years! Needless to say, he is looking for a more stable environment where he can really enjoy church services on Sunday morning and get to spend more time with the congregation.
